CARITA LINDA

by Samuel Lind

Oil on Canvas – 2024

In this vibrant and joyful portrait, master artist Samuel Lind captures the radiant essence of Afro-Caribbean beauty and cultural pride. “Carita Linda,” created during the music video production of Rauw Alejandro’s single of the same name, is a celebration of rhythm, heritage, and spiritual connection.

A young woman smiles toward the sky, surrounded by the symbols of our ancestral identity — bomba drums, ocean blues, Vejigante masks, and the lush greenery of Loíza. Her natural hair adorned with palm leaves speaks of our connection to the land, while her posture radiates gratitude and joy.

This artwork is not just an image — it is a reflection of who we are: bold, beautiful, rooted, and rising.

“Carita Linda”

A Family’s Artistic Tribute to Puerto Rican Heritage. Rauw Alejandro’s latest single, “Carita Linda,” is more than just a musical release—it’s a heartfelt homage to Puerto Rico’s rich cultural tapestry, The cover art brought to life through a unique collaboration with the Lind family, renowned for their contributions to Afro-Caribbean art and music.

A Fusion of Music and Visual Art:

The cover art for “Carita Linda” was created by Samuel Lind, a celebrated Afro-Puerto Rican painter from Loíza. His work vividly captures the essence of Puerto Rican culture, blending traditional elements with contemporary expression. The painting, which features vibrant colors and symbolic imagery, serves as a visual representation of the song’s themes of love, heritage, and identity.

The Lind Family’s Creative Legacy

The artistic influence of the Lind family extends beyond visual art. His son, Eliel Lind Osorio, known professionally as “Eliel, el que habla con las manos” is a multi-platinum music producer who has previously collaborated with Rauw Alejandro. Eliel’s deep understanding of Puerto Rican rhythms and his innovative production techniques have played a significant role in shaping the soundscape of modern Latin music.

Another of Samuel’s sons, Lemuel Lind, contributed to the project by digitizing his father’s painting, transforming it into the striking cover art for “Carita Linda.” As the Graphic and Interactive Media Director at LIND Studios, Lemuel’s expertise bridges traditional art and modern technology, ensuring that the visual elements of the single resonate with contemporary audiences.

Celebrating Afro-Caribbean Roots

“Carita Linda” is not only a musical endeavor but also a cultural statement. The song incorporates bomba yubá, a traditional Afro-Puerto Rican rhythm that originated in the 17th century among enslaved Africans on the island. By integrating this rhythm, Rauw Alejandro pays tribute to his African ancestors and highlights the enduring influence of Afro-Caribbean culture in Puerto Rico.

The music video, directed by Martin Seipel and El Zorro, further emphasizes this cultural celebration. Filmed in Puerto Rico, it showcases iconic symbols such as vejigantes—colorful, folkloric masks representing resistance and cultural pride—and scenes depicting the island’s natural beauty and vibrant community life.

A Testament to Cultural Preservation

The collaboration between Rauw Alejandro and the Lind family exemplifies the power of art and music in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. Through “Carita Linda,” they have created a multidimensional tribute that honors Puerto Rico’s Afro-Caribbean roots and inspires a deeper appreciation for the island’s rich artistic traditions.
